Youth Empowerment Forum (YEF) Digital Literacy Programme Overview

(YEF D-Lit)

The Youth Empowerment Forum (YEF) Digital Literacy Programme is a skills-based initiative designed to equip young people with essential digital knowledge and practical competencies required to participate meaningfully in today’s digital economy. The programme addresses the digital divide by providing access to technology, training, and support for youth from underserved communities.

The programme focuses on building foundational and intermediate digital skills that enable participants to use technology confidently, safely, and productively for education, employment, entrepreneurship, and civic participation.

Core Programme Components

Foundational Digital Skills
Participants are trained in basic computer literacy, including the use of computers and mobile devices, operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet navigation, and online research skills.

Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship
The programme emphasises responsible and ethical use of digital platforms. Training includes online safety, privacy, cyber awareness, misinformation, and positive digital citizenship.

Digital Skills for Education and Employment
YEF supports learners with digital tools for academic success and job readiness, including online learning platforms, CV and cover letter preparation, job search techniques, and professional communication.

Introduction to Advanced Digital Skills
Participants are exposed to entry-level digital skills such as coding basics, data literacy, artificial intelligence awareness, graphic design, and content creation, helping them explore career pathways in the digital and creative industries.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation
The programme encourages digital entrepreneurship by introducing website design, e-commerce, digital marketing, online branding, and the use of technology to create income-generating opportunities.

Community-Based Delivery and Access

The YEF Digital Literacy Programme is delivered through community centres, schools, libraries, and mobile digital hubs. By bringing training closer to communities, YEF ensures inclusive access to technology and learning opportunities.

Impact and Advocacy

Beyond skills development, the programme advocates for digital inclusion and equitable access to technology. YEF works with partners to improve connectivity, access to devices, and digital education infrastructure in marginalised communities.

Through a practical, inclusive, and future-focused approach, the YEF Digital Literacy Programme empowers youth with the tools, confidence, and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
